Welcome to Alternative Care Uganda
In Uganda, efforts are being made to reform the care system to advance care and protection of children, with particular focus on:
- Preventing unnecessary separation of children from their families
- Ensuring quality and inclusive alternative care provision for children without or at risk of losing parental care
- Transitioning residential care services, to reduce reliance on institutional care
- Ensuring effective support for children leaving care (also known as care leavers).
In the context of ongoing reforms, there is a need for an assemblage of relevant data to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of reforms, monitor conditions for children in alternative care, understand understanding risks and protection gaps that children face, and inform funding, policy, program, and other decisions about children’s lives.
